Technical Support, Sales and Customer Relations
Job Summary
  • Reporting to the general manager, the overall responsibility of this position is to maintain customer relations with distributors and contractors as well as conduct regular testing of soil products and support our production team to meet soil specifications.
  • The individual will act as a key liaison with landscape architects and municipal representatives to promote our products and secure approval of products for project use.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Customer Service Representative:
  • Maintain good customer relations with all Veratec customers, including dealers, contractors, landscape architects, municipalities, and end-users.
  • Conduct regular visits to Veratec dealers and educate staff on products.
  • Promote new products and seek opportunities for growth.
  • Liaise between dealers and general manager for special orders.
  • Respond to customer complaints and work with management to resolve issues.
  • Act as the primary liaison between Veratec internal and external stakeholders.
Contractor Site Visits:
  • Visit landscape crews at jobsites where Veratec products are delivered.
  • Solicit feedback regarding service and product quality.
  • Inquire about future work and requirements.
  • Offer promotional material such as gloves, pens, etc.
  • Provide updates to Veratec staff on information gathered.
Specialty Soils Manager:
  • Formulate soils to meet BC Landscape Standards and other custom specifications.
  • Work with the general manager and production manager to modify blend recipes as required.
Soil Testing:
  • Prepare samples for lab analysis and deliver to labs as needed.
  • Interpret results and advise on recipe changes as required.
  • Maintain soil reports in the company share drive.
  • Distribute soil reports to contractors, distributors, landscape architects.
Production Support:
  • Assist Production Manager with product formulation to meet specifications.
  • Maintain records of blend recipes and results.
  • Help source and test native soils for onsite use at Veratec yard.
  • Assist with environmental testing and monitoring as required.
  • Liaise between production yard and office to deliver paperwork and supplies.
Liaison with Landscape Architects and Engineers:
  • Conduct 'lunch and learn' sessions to educate Landscape Architects and municipal engineers about our products and soil science in general.
  • Promote Veratec specialty soils and work to have our products specified.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide advice on practical application issues for specific project installations and site conditions.
Education
  • Undergraduate degree in Soils Science, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering or related discipline with a strong emphasis on soils, testing, analysis, research or
  • Combination of experience and education.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Five or more years’ experience working in soils industry or related field.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Landscape Standards.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze data, interpret results and develop relevant recommendations.
  • This position requires excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to successfully build and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Collaborative (works with colleagues across many functionalities within the organization and with distributors, customers, and partners).
  • Strong interpersonal skills required include listening and communicating very effectively (orally and in writing).
  • Creative thinking and innovative problem solving balanced with pragmatism.
Working Conditions
  • The individual must be physically active and able to take soil samples, work outdoors in all weather, meet with contractors and conduct site visits.
  • Operating independently and driving as required around the region is standard for the position. (Compensation for driving is provided).
